Lecanemab, is a monoclonal antibody medication used for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.  Lecanemab is an amyloid beta-directed antibody. It is given via intravenous infusion. Lecanemab was approved for medical use in the United States in January 2023.

How does Leqembi work?

Leqembi works by targeting a peptide called amyloid-beta (Aβ), which is known to build up and form plaques in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease. Leqembi binds to and eliminates the Aβ fibers that aggregate to form those plaques.

What should you expect at your Leqembi infusion visit?

Your Leqembi infusion will take at least 1 hour, so your nurse will be with you for about 1 ½ hours. If you have just been prescribed Leqembi, your Induction doses begin at week 0, week 4, and then week 8. After you complete your infusion, the administration of Leqembi will change from an infusion to an on body injection (OBI). The first one will start at week 12 and will continue every 8 weeks after that. Your nurse will be available to answer any questions you have and can teach you how to self administer your Leqembi injections at home.

Our process

Home Infusion Options will complete an intake form with you that includes your home address, preferred address for your infusion (if different from your home), date of birth, insurance information and your prescribing doctor. Once we receive this information, we verify that your insurance benefits include home infusion therapy or home health care services under your insurance plan. Most insurance plans have one or the other, if not both.

If you don't have a prescription or clinical documentation to send us, we will reach out to your prescribing doctor to obtain the prescription and clinical documentation that supports your diagnosis and treatment.

After receiving the prescription and clinical documentation, we then forward those to your insurance company to request an authorization for your home infusion therapy services. The authorization includes the medication, supplies and nursing services.

We provide consistent communication of the authorization process. Once the authorization is completed, we discuss the outcome and next steps for your Leqembi Infusion.

You will receive a Welcome Email with your assigned team contacts. Your team will consist of a Pharmacy Technician, Your Infusion Nurse and a Billing Specialist. Your infusion nurse will reach out to you and schedule your infusion, based on your preferred availability and location.

Our nurses are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year - daytime hours, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Once you schedule your infusion with your nurse, you and your assigned pharmacy technician will schedule the delivery of your medication and supplies, which will be delivered to you 2-3 days before your infusion.

What should you expect from your Home Infusion Options Nurse?

Once we assign you one of our amazing infusion nurses, you will always have the same nurse. Your nurse will reach out to you and schedule your infusion, based on your preferred availability and location. Your nurse can meet you at work or come to your home, whether it be during the day, the evening or weekends. They will accommodate your schedule.

Your nurse will also answer any questions you have regarding Leqembi or the Home Infusion process during the initial scheduling call.

Your nurse will get to know you and your body, they will understand your veins and the best way to access them.

Having the same nurse for every infusion makes getting your infusion a flawless experience. You and your nurse will build a strong relationship and you will always be able to consider them as a cherished advocate for your health.
