Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get started?
You can call our Administrative office at (800) 996-0978 to complete an intake form, or fill one out here. You can also speak with your doctor and ask them to send a referral via Fax to #800-430-2202, or call our Administrative office to discuss.
How do I know if I am approved?
You will be contacted to be notified of approval by HIO staff. You will also receive a phone call from the pharmacy to answer questions and schedule the delivery of your medication and supplies.
How does the Prior Authorization process work?
HIO Billing & Authorization Department handles all Prior Authorizations. This process can take up to 14 business days.
How does Co-Pay Assistance work?
Patients are enrolled and claims are submitted by HIO staff. Sometimes, we may ask a patient/guardian/caregiver to provide an EOB. Any amounts that insurance does not cover will be submitted to Co-Pay Assistance.
When will I receive my medication?
Your medication and supplies will be shipped via FedEx Priority Overnight from the pharmacy. You are required to speak with the pharmacy prior to shipment to answer specific questions.
Are there certain hours that the nurse can come to my house?
Scheduling and availability will be determined by the assigned nurse and the patient/guardian/caregiver. We do not have any restrictions on when a nurse can see a patient, as we want to ensure the visit is as convenient as possible for the patient.
What if I need to reschedule?
You can always reach out to your assigned nurse directly to determine another day and time that works for the both of you. If you do reschedule with your nurse, your nurse will update the pharmacy and administrative office.
My child is receiving the infusion, do I need to be present?
Our company’s policy is that if a child is under the age of 18, a parent, guardian, or responsible adult needs to be present during the nursing visit.
How long will the nurse be in the house?
This will vary based on the medication being administered. Some medications only take about a half hour, some medications take much longer and are on a titrated schedule with an infusion pump. The first nursing visit will always be the longest due to paperwork that is required. After the infusion is started, the nurse will regularly take vitals throughout administration, but the patient is free to do normal activities like cooking, laundry, playing video games, etc.
Will you draw my labs, too?
Home Infusion Options is happy to provide coordination of lab services for our pediatric patients. Our nurse will draw the labs as ordered by the physician at the nursing visit and we will arrange for transportation of the specimens to a processing laboratory. Please be aware that any costs associated for the specimen processing will be billed by the processing laboratory.
How long does the nurse stay with the patient after the infusion to monitor for reactions?
The nurse will be regularly taking vitals throughout the visit and the administration of the IV medication. Scientific studies and evidence have shown that the majority of severe reactions happen during the infusion. We have company protocols in place and our nurses carry a Rescue Kit to treat any reactions or adverse events in the home. Before a nurse leaves the home, they instruct patients/caregivers to call a medical professional or 911 if they experience or observe any adverse reactions or events.
When will I receive a bill?
You will never receive a bill from Home Infusion Options. Any remaining balance is submitted to Co-Pay Assistance programs if applicable. However, you may receive a bill from a laboratory for processing specimens. You may also receive an EOB (Explanation of Benefits) from your insurance plan, this is not a bill.
What if I don't understand my EOB from insurance?
If you do not understand your EOB (Explanation of Benefits) and wish to discuss it, you can always reach out to our Billing and Authorization Department at (866) 455-0560.
My child will be attending college in the near future, do we need to switch providers?
Home Infusion Options can still provide your infusion medications and administer them while a patient is attending college. Please reach out our Administrative office to learn more, or you can fill out an intake form for a benefits check here.
