Home Infusion Therapy for Crohn’s Disease & Ulcerative Colitis

Managing a chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) like Crohn’s or Ulcerative Colitis is a lifelong journey. At Home Infusion Options (HIO), we believe your treatment should fit into your life—not the other way around. We provide expert clinical care for IBD biological therapies in the comfort of your home or office.

Understanding Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis

Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis are chronic inflammatory conditions affecting the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. While they share similar symptoms, they impact the body differently:

  • Crohn’s Disease: Can involve any part of the GI tract (from the mouth to the anus) but most commonly affects the small intestine and the beginning of the colon.

  • Ulcerative Colitis: Inflammation is strictly limited to the colon (large intestine) and rectum.

What Causes IBD?

While the exact cause of these conditions remains unknown, researchers point to three primary factors:

  1. Auto-immune Response: The immune system mistakenly attacks the healthy lining of the GI tract, causing chronic inflammation.

  2. Genetics: IBD can run in families. Certain populations, such as those of Ashkenazi Jewish descent, may have a higher prevalence.

  3. Environmental Triggers: Diet, stress, and specific antigens can trigger immune responses that lead to flare-ups.

The HIO Path to Care: How It Works

We’ve streamlined our process so you can focus on feeling better while we handle the logistics.

1. Simple Intake

We start by gathering your basic details, insurance information, and prescribing doctor’s contact. We’ll even help you determine the best location for your treatment—whether that's your living room or your workplace.

2. Insurance Verification & Authorization

Our team works directly with your insurance provider to verify coverage for home infusion therapy. If you don’t have your clinical documentation handy, don't worry—we’ll coordinate with your doctor’s office to secure the necessary prescriptions and diagnosis codes to request authorization for your medication, supplies, and nursing care.

3. Your Dedicated Care Team

Once authorized, you’ll receive a Welcome Email introducing your HIO team:

  • Pharmacy Technician: Coordinates your medication and supplies.

  • Infusion Nurse: Your clinical lead who performs the administration.

  • Billing Specialist: Handles the financial logistics and insurance claims.

4. Flexible Scheduling & Delivery

Our nurses are available 24/7, 365 days a year. Whether you need an evening, weekend, or holiday appointment, we work around your schedule. Your medication and supplies are delivered safely to your door 2–3 days before your scheduled infusion.
