How does it work?

Methylprednisolone is part of a potent class of anti-inflammatory agents, known as corticosteroids. Corticosteroids are used to treat many inflammatory diseases. It can treat inflammation, severe allergies, flares of chronic illnesses, and many other medical problems. It can also decrease some symptoms of cancer. For example, the corticosteroid prednisone is commonly used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, vasculitis, multiple sclerosis, organ transplant, dermatomyositis, and many other conditions. Methylprednisolone is similar to prednisone but can be given at higher doses as an infusion for treatment of severe inflammation.

Examples of conditions where IV methylprednisolone is routinely used include lupus affecting the kidneys or brain and some types of vasculitis. IV methylprednisolone is also given as a “pre-medication” in lower doses to prevent infusion reactions to other medications.

What should you expect at your Methylprednisolone Infusion visit?

Your Methylprednisolone Infusion will take about an hour, based on prescribed dosing and titration. Your infusion nurse will monitor you for side effects to ensure you do not have a reaction to your infusion treatment.

Our process

Home Infusion Options will complete an intake form with you that includes your home address, preferred address for your infusion (if different from your home), date of birth, insurance information and your prescribing doctor. Once we receive this information, we verify that your insurance benefits include home infusion therapy or home health care services under your insurance plan. Most insurance plans have one or the other, if not both.

If you don't have a prescription or clinical documentation to send us, we will reach out to your prescribing doctor to obtain the prescription and clinical documentation that supports your diagnosis and treatment.

After receiving the prescription and clinical documentation, we then forward those to your insurance company to request an authorization for your home infusion therapy services. The authorization includes the medication, supplies and nursing services.

We provide consistent communication of the authorization process. Once the authorization is completed, we discuss the outcome and next steps for your

Methylprednisolone Infusion.

You will receive a Welcome Email with your assigned team contacts. Your team will consist of a Pharmacy Technician, Your Infusion Nurse and a Billing Specialist. Your infusion nurse will reach out to you and schedule your infusion, based on your preferred availability and location.

Our nurses are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year - daytime hours, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Once you schedule your infusion with your nurse, you and your assigned pharmacy technician will schedule the delivery of your medication and supplies, which will be delivered to you 2-3 days before your infusion.

What should you expect from your Home Infusion Nurse?

Once we assign you one of our amazing infusion nurses, you will always have the same nurse. Your nurse will reach out to you and schedule your infusion, based on your preferred availability and location. Your nurse can meet you at work or come to your home, whether it be during the day, the evening or weekends. They will accommodate your schedule.

Your nurse will also answer any questions you have regarding Methylprednisolone Infusion or the Home Infusion process during the initial scheduling call.

Your nurse will get to know you and your body, they will understand your veins and the best way to access them.

Having the same nurse for every infusion makes getting your infusion a flawless experience. You and your nurse will build a strong relationship and you will always be able to consider them as a cherished advocate for your health.
